Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 128GB in x220 – modded to 7mm

This was a very simple mod, did not require anything, other then 4 new/shorter screws to replace the ones that were longer on the M4, and a bit of electrical tape. Without hte electrical tape, the drive was undetected, it was shorting out by touching the metal top…so there is a reason to the spacer :).

So far battery life has improved over the 320gb 7200rpm drive the x220 came with. I’d say a good 30 minutes over a usage. The battery still needs a bit of burn in though.

Awesome ! I’ll be getting a X220 with this real soon.

-Do you put the top cover back on ??

-Where do I get the new screws ?

-Can I slip a sheet cut out from anti-static wrap in between instead of tape ? (to avoid getting sticky glue on the chips incase I have to RMA)

I couldn’t get these answers anywhere else!
Thanks a lot!

So you just insert it back without the top cover ?

Does it go in easy ? Any wiggle ?

I got it from some screws I had from other builds/projects. I cannot tell the exact size/model, sorry! I know some people on the web used some m4 sized screws.

Hi,
I am interested to make the same setup. What is the PcMark result on your laptop?

Thanks!

I think you just run one default test “Run Benchmark”. The other tests are for the paid/full version.

You register first and then you get a key for running it once. All the reviews that I posted above do the same thing.

I hope you can manage it.

I got my 128GB M4 !!! Still waiting on the X220 to ship.

What can I use in place of electrical tape ???

I don’t want the sticky residue from the tape-glue stuck on the chips / board (in case I have to return it for refund).

Any ideas ???

Thanks.
