AT LOTTO 8 – July 2016

NOTE: This is not endorsed by Anandtech, they have no legal obligations in this if I decide to screw you all over or something.

BUY IN = $10

In the past some have put in more money, but let it be known, if we win, we will still all get an equal share. But we will all thank you greatly for the extra contribution, and I will let it be known who was nice enough to bump it up (if you so wish, or I can keep it anonymous). If you want to add a buy in for a spouse/SO make sure to fill the form out TWICE with unique info so I can contact you each individually.

DEADLINE: Friday July 8, 2016
230PM Pacific
330PM Mountain
430PM Central
530PM Eastern

EXAMPLE WINNING SCENARIO:

We win $250,000, 50 people bought in, we split $250,000 – tax cut / 50. We will be doing a lump payout, and we will use some of the funds to have a lawyer do the divvy process, to try and levvy as much tax saving as we can. I am thinking I take the tax cut (Minnesota), and say we’re an anonymous group of friends who won. I will then divide it up how you like … I can mail a check, cash, MO, etc, will let the lawyer make the decision for us. We have options, but like I said, let’s not worry about it until we win 🙂

or split it pretax and you collect yourself and pay your taxes. If I recall someone said that was an option.

STEP 1 :

send $10 via venmo (preferred), google wallet, or Amazon Gift card, IF YOU SEND AS CC, ADD 3%:

Venmo address: done
Google wallet: done
Amazon GC: much prefer venmo, but this option is still possible: done

If you have heatware, I could also do a MO/cash/check, but email me first for my address.

STEP 2 :
Fill this quick form out :
http://goo.gl/forms/nfOEU5FReUgxZ7Am1

This way I can keep track of everyone two fold, and then send a quick email once I get the actual tickets and we can split up the data entry work as we did last time. I will also update this blog post.

TIME TO WIN!

update 7-8-2016 10:14P CST
Sooooooo we got the numbers. Funny story, RossMan/7-11 might have screwed up, or really did us a solid, and the last 4 tickets are 10 draws a ticket. It’s an honest mistake, so make sure you make fun of him :). Not everyone is used to getting almost $900 in tickets.

But to business, can you guys enter the numbers as we used to here:

1 hour ago you were out. And yet you managed to suck yourself back in. I guess you realized that it’s better to just keep your current house to store the left over money after buying a new one with your lotto winnings.

I’ll blow my brains out if you guys win and I didnt join. This is insurance for me to continue living.

35 buy ins
35*5 entries = 175 total entries
PowerBall jackpot odds = 292,201,338
175/292,201,338 = 0.0000005989
0.0000005989 ~= 0.0000006

So…

6/10,000,000 = 3/5,000,000

Essentially…

1/1,666,666

NOT BAD.

@ Rope: 35 buy ins should be x10, because MegaMillion is 1 dollar per ticket, not $2 = 2x the tickets of most AT lotto and better odds! …unless we are doing powerplay/megaplier if it is allowed in WA?

oh, and the hush money was sent

Friday 7/8 update: Won $22 purchased 22 Megamillions tickets which is part of the $7 winnings below

Tuesday 7/12 update: Won $7 which will be saved until final drawing to purchase one last MegaMillions round

Future updates will be posted here every Wednesday and Saturday evening.

Beginning this weekend I’ll e-mail pics of tickets to Vivi to post here.

Please post any questions here or PM me on AT.

Today’s winning numbers are 16 51 52 56 58 4

Will scan our tickets tomorrow and post results here.

Thanks for keeping up with this Ross. I am F5ing this website every ~10minutes until I see $1 million

Friday 7/15 update: Won $5 which will be saved until final drawing to purchase one last MegaMillions round

As promised, I e-mailed scans of the current draw MM tickets to Vivi. It’s pointless to number them since we’re drawing the same numbers every time but there are ways to distinguish current from previous tickets.

Here’s a little guide on how to read the tickets:
Top “Original” references the original tickets serial number. Everytime “winnings” are collected, the ticket is considered claimed and can no longer be played. So a new ticket is re-issued, the very top references the previous ticket. Because the tickets are so long, I believe it cutoff the original serial number which is displayed at the top center. After every drawing after claiming our “winnings” I keep the old tickets for our records. After the final draw, I’ll rescan ALL tickets just to be extra cautious and thorough to ensure all winnings are claimed.
Bottom, first date shown is current tickets next draw date
The date after that is the last drawing date (August 09)
Below that shows the number of draws remaining which is 7 as of today (Saturday 7/16)
Printed on should be self-explanatory

Summary:
$34 total winnings as of now
$12 reserved to purchase future MM tickets after final draw

As always, I welcome your questions, suggestions and feedback.

I noticed this morning that Powerball is about to hit $400mill (if no one wins tonight). Would it be prudent to purchase some PB tickets with the current meager winnings, even though they are 2x the cost depending on how PB grows?

zinfamous,

I thought about it but only if the majority agrees and I doubt we’d get a response in time. I’m game if everyone else is, need to know by 8:00PM Eastern tonight.

Tuesday 7/19 update: Won $8 purchased 10 PowerBall tickets ($20) and used proceeds from previous $12 winnings. I e-mailed a pic of the ticket (before the drawing) to Vivi which he’ll upload and post here. Current PowerBall jackpot is $361 million with drawing today, here’s the ATOT thread for PowerBall.
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2480405

IIRC we have 6 MegaMillions drawings remaining at which point we’ll either be filthy rich or looking forward to the next opportunity.

Friday 7/22 update: Won $15 on MegaMillions and $0 on our recent PowerBall tickets.

zinfamous,

Congrats on your winnings, I also won a little. I bought a few scratch its and won $20 and $15 on $3 and $5 tickets and a few weren’t winners. I decided to call it a day and pocket my winnings, no big purchases planned anytime soon. OK maybe a celebratory burrito bowl at Chipotle.

Tuesday 7/26 update: Won $9 on MegaMillions

A few weeks ago I offered to throw $100 into the pot as a good will gesture for 7 Eleven’s screw up. With the PowerBall jackpot so high (estimated $422 million) I decided to buy $100 PB tickets today, I made it within 5 minutes of the deadline.

I have 5 separate .jpg files that I’d like to merge into a single 5 page file, what’s the EASIEST way to do this without Photoshop, etc.? Looking for a simple, quick and easy solution.

Friday 7/29 update: Won $6 on MegaMillions and $16 on Powerball tickets.

E-Mailed scans of MM and PB tickets to Vivi to post here. MM 3 draws remaining.

My wife and I will be in Canada for the next few days. Therefore final draw (Tuesday) update might not be posted until Saturday evening.

Tuesday 8/9 update: Won $6 on MegaMillions

and it’s over, our net winnings are around $40 I’d estimate.

Suggestions on how to disburse it?
